On this date, in 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.  

Six years earlier, to the day, U.S. Senator Strom Thurmond began his 24 hour filibuster, the longest ever conducted by a single senator.
